New style Vacuum table from steedcraft
Переглядів 4,8 тис.6 років тому
Vacuum casting is now much easier thanks to the price drop in vacuum pumps. Previously we have suggested a solution with a holding tank and a valve to allow for a cheap easy to find pump. Now that good quality pumps are affordable we can do away with the plumbing. These pumps are also very good for de gassing investment and silicone rubbers used to make molds.

Making a crown ring with 3 stones Part 5
Переглядів 3206 років тому
THe ring wants to be thick at the top in the crown where the stones are to be set and then thinner in the band with a nice symetry. The indexing feature of the lathe allows us to find the center of the crown, move to the start of the thinner section and take cuts right around the band and stop on the other side of the thicker crown section.

Here we cut the ring band in with indexed plunge cuts on the lathe. We find this much quicker and easier than lots of marking out and filing by hand.

In Part 3 we add a referernce point for the gouge to follow as it shapes the ring. To do this we turn a register on the end of the work.

Making a crowned ring with 3 stones Part 1

Using the home spun wax lathe in indexing mode to make a crown ring with 3 stone settings. Working with pattern wax the cutting loads are low and the work forms easily. This is the first in the series and shows the final ring in white bronze - it could also have been cast in silver or gold.

Hey mate, I was just wondering what the pot you heat your wax in is? Also, can you texture harder thicker waxes like this, I use a green carvers wax. If so, at what temperature? Cheers.✌️

I was thinking if there might be a rubber pipe cap that can be fitted on the back end to keep dust and dirt from accumulating on the refill valve? Maybe most of the contaminates are external and not from the fuel source?

Will these torches work with silver solder that melts at 1325 deg. Fahrenheit?

I've lost the disc while trying to clean it. Years after, I've managed to make a new one out of soft drink aluminium can. I measured the hole in the torch, then I took a belt hole puncher (pliers) got the appropriate size and made a small disk, took a needle and made a very small hole in the disk, works perfect.

Go to a smoke shop because they sell x2-x10 filtered butane cans. I’ve had mine running for about 2 years now with no issues. The more filtered the better….it will be a bit pricey.
